TV Drama Title Sequences

Image
TV Drama Title Sequences The Musketeers- In the title sequence for The Musketeers, all of the main characters are shown acting out a scene which links to their characters personality in the program. These images are played on top of a piece of music which conveys action and adventure, whilst being historically accurate to the time setting that the show is based in. This from the start shows the audience that the show is going to be eventful and intriguing. The background of the title sequence is very fast paced, which the viewer can infer reflects the show itself which is also fast paced. The background is also full of explosions which shows that the program will have lots of violent battle scenes. This may make the viewer want to continue watching as all the action that the title sequence alone has makes the show seem very exciting. The logo for the title is an emblem linked to the time period that the show is set in and the way that the editing makes the logo on a unif

Stranger Things-Age analysis

Image
Stranger Things-Age analysis  In the first clip that we watched of Stranger Things, children were presented as being ignorant to their surroundings, as the boys were completely focused on their game of Dungeons and Dragons. As the boys are so engrossed in this world of make believe, they are presented as silly and childish. This is also done through the use of digetic sound in the clip, where no music is played, until the boys interact with the adults, or something unexpected is going to happen. The mise en scene of this clip also presents the boys as children of the 80s, due to the nostalgic clothes and props. The adults are represented as authoritative figures due to the shot of the mother pointing up towards her (low angle shot) which shows authority, and the fact that the audience are watching from the viewpoint of the kids. Also the framing of the shot shows the child in between his two parents, as he tries to get one to help him with the other. They both say no wh

News: The Political Landscape of Britain

News: The Political Landscape of Britain The Conservative Party- Right Wing The current British government Mix of right-wing nationalism and centrist Broad range of traditional conservatives and royalists, neo-liberals and social conservatives. Opposing views within the party on the issue of whether Britain should be in the EU This front page clearly states that the Daily Express supports the conservatives, due to the fact they say the outcome will be bad if May doesn't win. UKIP - The UK Independence Party Sovereignist party Wants Britain to withdraw from the European Union Xenophobic views This again shows that the Daily express has clear views on which party the newspaper supports, as it infers that UKIP will make the country great. BNP - British National Party- An extreme right-wing party Nationalistic and xenophobic views No members of parliament The Sun here shows xenophobic views as it implies that it is bad to feel sympathy to J

Doctor Foster and Top Of The Lake

Image
Doctor Foster and Top Of The Lake Who is the main character and how are they being represented through their character traits? How does this fit with your previous conceptions of female stereotypes? Research who produced and directed both shows and consider how this may alter the way the characters are constructed. Who is the target audience for these shows and how does this alter how they are being constructed by the director?              Doctor Foster The main character is the lady Dr Foster, and in the trailer she is being represented as weak minded and paranoid. This is due to the fact that she thinks her husband might be cheating on her, yet does not appear to take much action at first. This represents the female gender badly as it implies that if a woman finds out she is being cheated on, she will not do anything about it and try to forget about what might have happened. This does conform to the female stereotypes that I have seen before, as it shows women to b

Representation of gender in Mad Men

Image
Representation of gender in Mad Men- In the scene from season 1 episode 1 of Mad Men, we could see that the main message to a modern audience was that women are objects just there for the entertainment of men. In the clip, a women gets into a lift surrounded by men, who talk about her as if she was a possession rather than a person. Also, the clip showed that women themselves believed that the only way for them to do well in their job, was to play up to the fact that the men would only like them if they dressed and acted how the men wanted them to. We can see how this is presented through: Camera Sound Editing Mise-en-scene Camera- The scene starts with an ariel shot of the old fashioned cars below, next to the office building. Then there are close up shots of the characters, particularly the women. This suggests to me that the women are one of the main focuses of the audience, as they are a main focus of the men working in the office. This shows that women

The male gaze in Papa Roach- ...To Be Loved

Image
The male gaze in a music video of my choice- Papa Roach- ...To Be Loved      We can see in the music video, and the image below, that this video is aimed at a male audience as the Rock genre has generally more male listeners than female. Because of this, the video is focused on the lead singer, Jacoby Shaddix, with lots of girls, some of which wearing revealing outfits. Jacoby is used to represent a situation that men would like to relate to, so the male audience do this.  The singer Jacoby looks at the predominantly male audience as if to say, this is what you can be like if you live like me ( a rocker). The audience may look back at him with a sense of want or jealousy as that is the life they want to have. However, the female audience may be looking at the video with a sense of disgust as they know that that is a dream and not a reality, but also because the women in the video are dressed very scarcely, they may dislike the video because of that reason.

Front pages about Teenagers

Image
Front pages about Teenagers  This front page talks about how many British teens are going to join IS by running away from home. This front cover suggests that the girls are going to IS thinking they will have a better life, yet they will most likely just be married off to IS fighters. This may make the viewer of the front page believe that these girls are stupid as the headline "THE SCHOOLGIRL JIHADI BRIDES" makes them sound silly as the are not old enough to be getting married. Also they didn't blur the faces of the girls which is very disrespectful, and can be seen as ruining those girls lives if they returned to Britain. The Guardian- The Guardian uses more serious phrases in their front pages, and this is an example of when the news is taken seriously, and does not at first seem to be obviously biased. This front page does not have an opion behind it but talks about a clear fact. It also does not make the teens sound silly or childish as the headline is fact
