TV Drama Title Sequences

The Musketeers-

In the title sequence for The Musketeers, all of the main characters are shown acting out a scene which links to their characters personality in the program. These images are played on top of a piece of music which conveys action and adventure, whilst being historically accurate to the time setting that the show is based in. This from the start shows the audience that the show is going to be eventful and intriguing. The background of the title sequence is very fast paced, which the viewer can infer reflects the show itself which is also fast paced. The background is also full of explosions which shows that the program will have lots of violent battle scenes. This may make the viewer want to continue watching as all the action that the title sequence alone has makes the show seem very exciting. The logo for the title is an emblem linked to the time period that the show is set in and the way that the editing makes the logo on a uniform fade into the logo of the show is very imaginative and impressive. Lastly, the font used for the logo is often linked to action/horror which again sets the viewer up to have an expectation that the show will be eventful and filled with amazing action scenes. The background of the shot uses shallow focus so that the characters are prominent and stand out. There is also a lot of fade transitions to make the opening seem continuous and as if there is a story being told.

Sherlock-

There is a time lapse  of London playing in this title sequence for Sherlock. This is because the series is set in London, but I also believe because London is busy and frantic, it reflects the sort of story lines that are in the series. Then there are short glances at weapons and crime scenes, which obviously show that the series is a crime solving/mystery genre. These short glances that we get of weapons etc interest the viewer as they can infer that the series mixes everyday life (the London traffic) with excitement and intrigue (crimes). The music is also very whimsical, like Sherlock is other worldly because of his amazing power of deduction. Lastly, the font the logo is in is very straight and bold. This could reflect the fact that Sherlock is straightforward and unemotional. This is a good use of a logo to represent the main character. There are a few ariel shots in this opening to show some different perspectives, as if its being used as a metaphor to show how people view to world differently to each other. Also there are a lot of fade transitions again, to show how continuous the story that the show is telling is.
