Comparing Texts

In the Gucci advert James Franco is used to promote the male fragrance because the people who made the advert knew that if a man saw the poster they would see that he was advertising it, they may want to buy it because they aspire to be like him. With the Pantene advert, they have used Selena Gomez because many women will look at her and think how when she is under a magnifying glass all the time, if the Pantene shampoo is good enough for her, it must be good enough for them.

In the Gucci advert, James is supposed to look sophisticated and suave, and they achieve this by having him in a tuxedo staring at the camera with a relatively serious look on his face as he is professional and rich. This again makes the viewer want to buy the product. In the Pantene advert, Selena Gomez has been directed to have a slight smile on her face as to make the viewer feel as is she is promoting the product in a good way directly to them (hence the eye contact). She is made to look powerful due to the low angle shot looking up at her, making the viewer believe they can be as sophisticated as her just by using this shampoo.

The colour scheme of the Gucci is black and white as to link to old Hollywood which was glamorous, but the writing on this advert is in gold as to infer money and being rich. The Pantene advert has a colour scheme of the product itself, white and gold, so that the viewer can link the picture with the product, and know what to buy when they are in the shop.

The product placement of both of these adverts is quite obvious as they want the audience to be quite sure they know what the product looks like so that they can go to the shop and buy it. However the Pantene advert has the focus on Selena herself, as they want the viewer to look at how lustrous her hair is, as that is what the product can do for the viewer if they buy it.
