Cover No.1

  1. Masthead – The Big Issue
  2. Serif font –I would say that the main text is in the font of Adobe Fan Heiti Std B.
  3. Cross Head – The 'Plus' section offers an incite into what else is going to be inside the magazine other than the the main story on the front. The word 'plus' acts sort of like a sub heading, as The Big Issue does not tend to use sub headings very often.
  4. Mode Of Address – The magazine talks to the audience in a relaxed fashion, yet the style of the speech is still formal.
  5. Sell Lines – 'A hand up not a hand out'
  6. Banners – Also the plus section is in a bright yellow as the editors want the public to buy the magazine for the main article, yet they also want them to want to read the other articles so they put them in an eye catching colour.
  7. House Style – The Big Issue tends to make their front pages eye catching through the use of large images and bold colours, which is different to a lot of other magazines as The Big Issue tries to make their front pages memorable.
  8. Kerning - The space between letters on this cover are very close together, probably as they wanted to fit more information on the cover itself.
  9. By-lines - There is not the name of the writers on the cover, but there is information about the date of the issue etc.
  10. Anchorage – The main headline suggests that the picture shows how Donald Trump was going to negatively affect the world when he became president.
I would say that this cover is very effective as it is eye catching and really draws attention with all the colours. This is a good method for selling more copies, as if the cover was not bright and noticeable, most people would walk past and not want to buy the magazine. Because these covers make more people buy the magazine, it helps the Big Issue to achieve more of their aims, and doing that will help those who sell the magazine on the streets.

  1. Masthead – The Big Issue
  2. Serif font – I would say the font of this front cover is Adobe Gothic Std B.
  3. Mode Of Address – The way that the magazine talks to the audience is very formal, so the audience feels as if what they are reading is reliable.
  4. Sell Lines – 'A hand up not a hand out'
  5. Banners – the banners on this cover are almost transparent which makes them contrast with the dark colours of the actual cover.
  6. House Style – again here we have a large image of a celebrity with a yellow triangle in the top right hand corner.
  7. Kerning - the space between letters is more spread out than the previous cover, most likely to make an impact as the colours are not as bright.
  8. Strap Lines – the little banner at the bottom tells of the other articles in the magazine.
  9. By-lines - There is the date and number of the issue in the top left hand corner below the logo of the Big Issue.
The front cover here is attractive and appealing to the readers/target market as the image is of a current popular celebrity. This is used as it is a way of making the younger generation interested as they want to read about some of their idols. Also as the picture is really large, it is prominent and stands out.

Cover No.3

  1. Masthead – The Big Issue
  2. Serif font –I would say the font of this front cover is Adobe Gothic Std B again.
  3. Sans serif font – The logo is in the same font as the rest of the cover, yet the black font makes it stand out more and look bolder, even if it isn't.
  4. Sell Lines – 'A hand up not a hand out'
  5. House Style – there is not the yellow triangle in the top right hand corner on this issue, yet the fonts and logo are all the same.
  6. By-lines -the issue number is in small white font underneath the logo, as this information isn't as important if the cover is eyecatching.
  7. Anchorage – The image and text suggest that the issue is in tribute to George Michael, and they present it in a way that it doesn't look melancholic, yet pays respect to the pop star.
Many people would want to buy this addition of the magazine, as when George Michael died, many people were devastated. This would mean that many fans of him would want a commemorative magazine to remember him.
