Pre-production research- Fair Trade
Pre-production research-Fair Trade
This advert shows a tub of Ben & Jerry's ice cream which has been knocked over, and inside is an image of a fair trade farmer. This has been done to show that inside each and every tub of Ben & Jerry's is a fair trade product. This has been done to make the buyer want to purchase the product as they know it will be helping the farmers that provide the products used to make the ice cream.
The illustrations used here are effective in selling the product as they are very traditional and will make the buyer believe that the product is made to a classic recipe, but also is authentic and worth paying the extra money for.
This advert is simplistic, yet is also eye catching as the text is bold and to the point. This may make the consumer feel better when they are buying Starbucks coffee, as they know that the farmers of the coffee beans are being paid fairly for their work.
The words used on this advert may make parents want to buy the bananas for their children as they are organic and healthy. The yellow colour is also relevant to the product and makes it clear what the advert is about.
What Fairtrade does:
Fairtrade sets standards: Fairtrade Standards social, economic and environmental standards that are set for both companies and the farmers and workers who grow the food we love. For farmers and workers the standards include protection of workers’ rights and the environment, for companies they include the payment of the Fairtrade Minimum Price and an additional Fairtrade Premium to invest in business or community projects of the community’s choice.
Fairtrade certifies products and ingredients: They independently check that there standards have been met by the farmers, workers and companies that are part of products’ supply chains. And in order to reassure consumers that this has happened, they license the use of the FAIRTRADE Mark on products and packaging to signal this. When all the ingredients that can be Fairtrade in a product are, the product carries this Mark.
