Ok Go: Representation in Music Video
OK Go: Representation in Music Video
1. How are Ok Go representing themselves?
All three of the music videos that we watched were done very creatively so Ok Go are trying to portray their creative personalities through the use of colour and different camera shots such as stop motion. All three of the videos link together as the band seem to have a routine that they preform that involves different objects or places. In the first video treadmills are used to create a dance routine, in the second video a park is use as well as a flash mob to preform for the video, and lastly in the third video, printers are used to create a background in which the band preforms in front of.
2. What Media Language is present in all three music videos giving them a unique identity? Think about the similarities between each video:
- Slow motion- They like to use slow motion in each of their videos, as well as stop motion as it adds a creative effect to the final video.
- One take- this takes a lot more time to achieve the final video, yet it means that the end product has a lot more of a realistic finish.
- The bright colours- This is very prominent in each of Ok Go's videos as it links all the videos together, but also gives the audience something to focus on and watch, rather than just the imaginative concepts of the music videos.
3. Why do you think they have adopted this representation?
They may believe that if all of their videos are linked in some way, they may have a stronger connection with their fans as they create their unique music videos for their fans pleasure. Also the consistency of the imaginative ideas in their music videos may be one way that they have gained more fans than if they were to do normal, boring music videos.
