Freedom of Press-
There are no restraints on the press, so they can put different opinions in the newspaper without the government being able to stop them if they are opinions that the government do not agree with. I believe that the government should have limited control over the media as if they had a strong control over the stories, then some that deserve to be written about, may not be allowed to be published.
How are newspapers regulated?-
- Editors must follow the rules of the Editors code of Practice.
- Press Complaints Commission (PCC)
- Independent Press Standards Organisation
The press can influence who people vote for in elections as they can print very biased views for their readers to see. This can relate to the reception theory which states that people can be influenced by the messages that they read in the media.
The Daily Mail is a right wing newspaper who mostly support the Conservative party. Example:
The Guardian is a centre-left newspaper who support mainly Labour of the Liberal Democrats. Example:
